From the earliest life on Earth, Kidipede shows the progression to prokaryotes and eukaryotes, with a discussion of the parts of the cell. We then move on to plants and animals. For plants, we see the development of reproductive systems from spores to seeds and then flowers, and the move from sea water to fresh water and then to land. The parallel developments in animals move from hydras to worms to arthropods, then to fish, frogs, reptiles, birds, and mammals, including discussion of the evolution of the digestive system, the nervous system, the skeletal system, the respiratory system, and the reproductive system.
Kidipede's focus is on understanding how life on Earth got from its simplest beginnings to its present complexity. We emphasize the different roles of both cooperation and competition in species success, and the important role of environmental changes in driving evolution.
